The nation’s leader in expanding college men’s volleyball will a part of the largest non-conference tournament during the upcoming season.
Off the Block announced Friday that the MotorMVB Foundation will be the primary sponsor of the inaugural Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge presented by MotorMVB.
MotorMVB is a non-profit organization committed to growing the sport of boys’ and men’s volleyball throughout the United States. With about 200 colleges currently sponsoring men’s volleyball programs, MotorMVB’s goal is to increase that number to 380 schools by 2027.
The Grow the Game Challenge features 11 NCAA Division I-II teams and takes place on Jan. 12-14 at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville. In addition, all five college men’s volleyball conference will be represented in the tournament field that includes Barton, Charleston, Erskine, Grand Canyon, Hawai’i, Limestone, Lincoln Memorial, Lindenwood, McKendree, North Greenville and Sacred Heart
The Grow the Game Challenge is the first time Nashville will play host to a NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball match.
No Nashville area college has a NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball program. However, Cumberland University, a NAIA school located in nearby Lebanon, Tennessee, announced earlier this month that it would start a men’s volleyball team in 2019.
Off the Block is a national award-winning website that launched in 2011 and has emerged as the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage. The website’s editor and founder Vinnie Lopes will serve as the tournament director for the Grow the Game Challenge.
The MotorMVB Broad of Director includes UCLA and U.S. Men’s National Team coach John Speraw as the chairman. Olympic setter Lloy Ball and MotorMVB CEO Wade Garard serve on the board of this philanthropic group.
